One of the oldest theatres in the UK, dating back some 275 years and still going strong with its diverse programme of shows and events. 

Owned and operated by ATG Group, built in 1902, and has recently undergone a major re-furbishment and brings the best theatre, music, comedy, dance and musicals to audiences from across the region.

The largest music and arts venue in York, hosting a diverse programme of world-class events, including comedy, a range of live bands, sports, family shows and community events.

Riding Lights moved into its first permanent home, Friargate Theatre in the heart of York, in 1999. It opened to the public in May 2000 with the company’s production of Ben Jonson’s classic satire, The Alchemist.

An independent theatre and cinema in a beautifully-restored 1930s Odeon cinema, home to our famous theatre-in-the-round which was the first of its kind in the world. 

The Georgian Theatre Royal gives a unique insight into the past and reveals the secrets of this, the most complete working Georgian playhouse in Britain.

Helmsley Arts Centre is a meeting place for the creatively curious; a community-led, social hive with opportunities to be creative and experience high-quality arts and culture.

Built in 1878 the theatre is a Victorian delight. The theatre is home to a wide and varied mix of entertainment including plays; traditional drama, pantomimes, musicals and comedy. Concerts, tribute shows, music hall and variety shows ensure that audiences of all ages will find something they enjoy.

During the day, there’s a huge range of classes and community groups, alongside auctions, bazaars, and public and private events. In the evening, this beautiful little music hall is transformed into a venue for top-quality live music, drama, comedy, spoken word, film, and festivals. 

The current Milton Rooms complex was built in 1931 on the former site of the original theatre and its main space seats almost 300 theatre style. It also features the largest sprung wooden dance floor in North Yorkshire!
